Problem-solving procedures in spatially explicit tasks: comparing procedures with printed and digital cartographic documents

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract The aim of this research study is to compare the procedures for solving geographical problems with printed and digital cartographic products. These documents are used in various areas society, including regional development or visual communication media. A total 27 probands participated research. Individuals were randomly divided into two groups, one group working a atlas other same version. Respondents tested using stationary wearable eye-trackers while completing didactic test determine different levels map skills. results showed that although success rate tasks did not differ between groups respondents, differences mainly time needed solution satisfaction use given type work.

Extending problem-solving procedures through reflection.

A large-sample (n=75) fMRI study guided the development of a theory of how people extend their problem-solving procedures by reflecting on them. Both children and adults were trained on a new mathematical procedure and then were challenged with novel problems that required them to change and extend their procedure to solve these problems. The fMRI data were analyzed using a combination of hidde...

Use of Examples and Procedures in Problem Solving

We studied how successfully students could use examples and procedures to construct equations for work problems. According to the proposed theory, the procedures indicate how to generate values that differ in structure from the example. The fLrst experiment compared 3 groups of students who received a simple example, a set of procedures, or both. A mathematical model with 3 parameters (the prob...

Consistency in Extending Problem-solving Procedures Indicates Expertise

Background. Transfer of learning, which is the extent that one is able to apply prior experience and knowledge in a new but similar situation, has been studied extensively since the beginning of the last century. Recent brain imaging studies have provided new insight into how students are able to extend their previous problem solving skills to new but similar problems. Aim. We wish to determine...

Exact procedures for solving the discrete ordered median problem

The Discrete Ordered Median Problem (DOMP) generalizes classical discrete location problems, such as the N -median, N -center and Uncapacitated Facility Location problems. It was introduced by Nickel [16], who formulated it as both a nonlinear and a linear integer program. We propose an alternative integer linear programming formulation for the DOMP, discuss relationships between both integer l...

An Extensible Domain-Specific Language for Describing Problem-Solving Procedures

An intelligent tutoring system (ITS) is often described as having an inner loop for supporting solving tasks step by step, and an outer loop for selecting tasks. Many task domains have problem-solving procedures that express how tasks can be solved by applying steps or rules in a controlled way. In this paper we collect established ITS design principles, and use the principles to compare and ev...
